Drummer–vocalist Duffy handed a new video to a friend and summed it up with «We are happy to have friends like that.» Decibel premieres the clip for a track from We Don’t Belong Here.
According to Decibel.
“We are happy to have friends like that.”
Decibel is premiering the video for NIXD’s «Midlife Christless», a song from the band’s We Don’t Belong Here LP, released in May on xCHCx Records. NIXD are a Chicago/Texas trio featuring drummer–vocalist Duffy, guitarist Shellhamer and bassist–vocalist Bocek. The record was tracked live in Chicago and compresses nine songs into under 15 minutes, drawing on crust, hardcore, thrash and early AmRep-style noise rock.
The quoted line appears in the publication’s coverage of the video’s creation. Duffy explains that the band handed the song to a trusted friend, Yeva, to craft the visual interpretation, and remarks «We are happy to have friends like that.» The sentence serves as a concise acknowledgment of creative trust and personal gratitude toward the collaborator who handled the video.
Decibel’s piece places the video in the context of NIXD’s continued appetite for loud, abrasive music and notes the song’s subject – people who refuse accountability and friendships worn down by that behavior. The story also references the members’ shared history going back to 2003, when connections formed between American Heritage and The Art of Burning Water, and how those ties keep informing their current work.
