THE SMASHING PUMPKINS Release Music Video For 'Black Stars' From 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping (The Album)'

The Smashing Pumpkins have released the music video for "Black Stars," an original contribution to The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping (The Album). The song was recorded with acclaimed producer Butch Vig, marking the first time the band and Vig have worked together since the landmark 1993 album Siamese Dream. The soundtrack is scheduled to arrive November 13 via MCA, ahead of the Lionsgate film opening in theaters on November 20, 2026.

According to the credits for the track, its origins trace back to a period when frontman Billy Corgan was pursuing solo material and the band accepted an invitation to supply an original song for the film. Corgan brought in Vig to help select and shape the recording; sessions took place at Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles with additional recording in Chicago. "Black Stars" joins a collection of previously unreleased pieces created specifically for the world of the film.

The soundtrack is executive produced by Grammy winner Dave Cobb and gathers 29 cross-genre artists for an expansive musical package. On the live front, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS are headlining arenas across North America on their The Rats In A Cage tour, with "Black Stars" included in their set. The accompanying film, directed by Francis Lawrence, follows a young Haymitch Abernathy – played by Joseph Zada – during the 50th annual Second Quarter Quell, a story set 24 years before the original Hunger Games saga and featuring a cast that includes Mckenna Grace, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close and others.
