According to ThePRP.
The Smashing Pumpkins have premiered a new single, “Black Stars,” which went online as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping. The movie opens in theaters on November 20, 2026, and the soundtrack is scheduled for release on November 13, positioning the single within the film’s promotional rollout.
The release is notable because it represents the band’s first new work with producer Butch Vig in about 32 years. Vig previously co-produced the Pumpkins’ debut Gish and its multi-platinum follow-up Siamese Dream, and his credits include production work with Nirvana and Helmet. According to the announcement, “Black Stars” originated from material Billy Corgan was developing for a solo album and was later repurposed for this soundtrack.
Recording took place at Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles, with additional tracking completed in the band’s hometown of Chicago. The collaboration with Vig was reported earlier this year when the band entered the studio, and the single’s premiere confirms the reunion of producer and band after several decades apart.
